Could I pursue a master's degree in public health with an undergraduate in microbiology

Could I pursue a master's degree in public health with an undergraduate in microbiology?
I will graduate in May with a bachelor's degree in microbiology from the University of Georgia. What are the chances of being accepted into a graduate program for Public Health? I have a 3.2 GPA, and will have good recommendation letters. Would students who have undergraduate degrees in other disciplines, such as administration, etc. be accepted before me? Thank you for your feedback! :)

You have a good shot. Get the information on the graduate program for Public Health, and see if you can fulfill the admission requirements. If you see some requirement that you think you cannot fulfill, do not give up ! Phone the deans office for the program for Public Health, and ask to speak to someone about the admission requirements and your qualifications. If you want this, push for it. Part of being in a responsible position, is knowing when to push and when to be flexible. I suggest you compose a letter, writing why you want to do this and what your plans and goals are. Once you have it written down, read it over a few times and rehearse it. Then if you do meet with the dean regarding admission, you will have yourself prepared to make your case. I wish you success in your worthy endeavor.

Oh my gosh, are you kidding me? You have a science background! They will accept students with degrees in other fields, but they secretly love the science people. What they look for is a mix of skills, and it will depend on your field as far as what you concentrate on in grad school. You will learn about policy and admin, but the cool thing about grad school is that you'll meet (and be able to learn with and from) students with different backgrounds and strengths. Best of luck! If you haven't the GRE yet, good luck with that too!

What education do I need to become a Public Health Nurse

What education do I need to become a Public Health Nurse?
I have always been interested in this field. I am currently in college studying mass communications and would love to get my masters in public health. What qualifications do I need to get a job in this field? I would appreciate detailed information!

You will need to become a registered nurse first (RN). If you want to work in public health for a governmental agency you will need a bachelors in nursing (BSN). Most universities offer an accelerated program for students who have a bachelor's in another field. You may also want to consider becoming an advanced practice nurse which requires a Masters (MSN). The university I attend has a dual major in public health and nursing you may want to look at to give you some ideas. Here is a link to the page at the Univ. of South Florida in Tampa http://health.usf.edu/nocms/nursing/Programs_of_Study/mshealth.html Hope this helps - Michael

Masters of Public Health via Distance Education

Masters of Public Health via Distance Education?
I've just graduated from college with a degree in Nutrition, but I want to further my education in public health. I was wondering if anyone out there had any personal preference with good online or distance education schools for a M.P.H?

Well personally I have not enrolled into online college but one thing I will suggest you is to look for the accreditation status of the college. College which is accredited by the authorities approved by US Department of Education must be given preference. The page http://www.thedegreeexperts.com/sd-master-of-public-health-285.aspx might help you to find the online accredited colleges offering Masters in Public Health.

Harmon you just forgot one point and that is tuition fee. This site also provide fee information in detail. This point is always neglected but is one of the major one that help one decide a college.
